I just wrapped in Florida after an intense shoot with director and close friend Julian Higgins for his new film Through the Eye. It’s a 70′s-era crime thriller taking place in my hometown, Tarpon Springs, FL, and Barranquilla, Colombia. We’re shooting all over the places I grew up (as did Julian, we’ve known each other for years). We started late September, and after a breakneck 17 day shoot, wrapped up on Oct. 8.
We shot on the Canon 7d, on which I’ve gotten more than comfortable shooting lately. My crew is about half from LA (the regulars on G&E) and half from Tampa, all people I know. The rain couldn’t stop us, the schedule couldn’t stop us, the undersized crew couldn’t stop us — the film got done. We have a couple minor scenes to pick up in LA, but nothing pressing or discouraging.
I got the privilege to work with Robert Thorne again (from Fallout: Nuka Break) as the lead, as well as Kevin Brooks, David Castro, Joe Gerety, and Bianca Malinowski. We even got three days shooting with Tom Sizemore from Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, and Pearl Harbor.
Let me say this plainly: this movie will be very awesome. We shot horses, gunfights, fires, boats, lighthouses, army transports, rain, everything. Be prepared for fun. Right now I’m getting prepared for post.
